St. Camillus recently welcomed two brand-new hydroponic garden systems from Babylon Micro Farms, now installed in our Atrium. These innovative additions were made possible through a generous grant from the Order of St. Camillus Foundation.

These state-of-the-art indoor gardens allow our community to grow crisp greens, fragrant herbs, and even edible flowers year-round using nutrient-rich water and specialized lighting — no soil required. The pesticide-free, nutrient-dense harvest is incorporated into menu items across Independent Living’s four dining locations, creating a true farm-to-table experience just steps from where the crops are grown.

Beyond their culinary impact, the gardens have quickly become a gathering place for residents and visitors alike. Many enjoy watching the crops grow and learning about the process, with some even volunteering to lend a hand at harvest time. A mobile app notifies resident volunteers when the crops are at peak freshness and ready to be picked. Recently, our Culinary team showcased the program with a cooking demonstration featuring the freshly harvested greens, transforming them into vibrant salads and nutritious smoothies.

The hydroponic gardens nourish more than just the body — they spark curiosity, encourage connection, and reflect our ongoing commitment to whole-person wellness. We can’t wait to see what grows next!
