An Update from St. Camillus

July 2, 2020

To our St. Camillus family members:

We are writing to let you know of some exciting developments. Our long awaited guidance for resuming visits for both our assisted living and memory care residents has been provided to us from state officials and we are busy drafting protocols and policies from this guidance, and getting ready to start hosting visits, hopefully in the near future. Once these policies and protocols are complete, we will send them out via this venue so that everybody is aware of how safe visits at St Camillus will work for the families of our assisted living and memory care residents.

We will not immediately be able to host visits here on campus because visits on campus are not allowed during periods of time when we have active cases of COVID-19 among any residents or staff. We will need to complete two consecutive weeks of testing and have no positive cases before on campus visits can begin. When we do reach this point, visits will solely take place outside on the patio. These will be by scheduled appointment, 7 days per week. The only exception to this will be the visits for compassionate care/end of life situations where the family will be allowed at the bedside, after notice to the family from the resident’s nurse.

We were also made aware yesterday of changes in guidance regarding isolation practices. We will no longer need to have your loved one in isolation after medical appointments OR outings into the community or your home.

The safest way to visit your loved one at the present time is by FaceTime, Skype phone calls or other virtual visits. The next safest option is a scheduled window visit. If you would like to schedule a virtual visit or call, please contact your loved ones social worker. Families may make an informed decision about the risk of contracting COVID-19 in the community and if you would still like to pursue an off campus outing, families of residents residing in assisted living or memory care are free to schedule a time to come and pick up your loved one and take them home or off campus for a visit until such time that we are COVID-19 free and can host patio visits. To do this:

  1. Notify the nurse or social worker of when you would like to pick up your loved one.
  2. You will be screened at the door. If you pass the screening, you may sign out your loved one and leave.
  3. You should wear a mask, as should the resident, maintain social distance as much as possible, and practice good hand hygiene during the outing.
  4. If you or any person who comes in contact with your loved one develops COVID-19 within 14 days of your visit, please notify us immediately so that we can increase our assessments of your loved ones health and overall condition.

We will continue to keep you informed as we become aware of changes in guidance and let you know when we reach the point of being COVID-19 free and can start hosting on campus visits.

If you have any questions, please contact us:

Sincerely,

Kevin Schwab, Chief Executive Officer
