VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT - Volunteer(s) of the Year by Lindsey Bartelt
Each year RAC (Resident Advisory Committee) chooses a resident and the St. Camillus Volunteer Committee chooses a person or persons from the Milwaukee community to receive the Volunteer of the Year Award. St. Camillus is pleased to announce that the 2017 Volunteer of the Year recipients are Mary Ruehl and Michael and Sally Chier.
These people are recognized for their dedication and selflessness which have made a significant impact on the St. Camillus Community. It is always a difficult choice to make because many volunteers stand out and all make a difference!
Mary Ruehl is very involved in Pastoral Care and helps with several Masses each week, distribution of the Eucharist, and visiting one on one with residents. Mary is known for her generosity, positivity, and gentle spirit.
Mike and Sally Chier began volunteering in our Memory Care Community in 2017. Immediately both Mike and Sally showed great initiative and effort. Sally took it upon herself to start a reading group for our memory care residents. She reached out to the Alzheimer’s Association to learn what books would be the most beneficial to read, then picked them up at her local library, and brought them to share with residents.
Mike has a long-time background in singing. He created a book of songs and hymns and started a music group with the residents. Mike and Sally also are involved in the Lay Camillian Family.
Mary, Mike, and Sally, we are grateful for all of your service to the St. Camillus Community.
